installing the running boards
At the end of November me and my Van-buddy Lukas (G30 4x4, see picture) picked up our huge order from Summit Racing at the airport in Zurich.
I ordered 2 mufflers (because it's 4x cheaper than in Switzerland) and running boards:
Unpacking, reading the manual, starting to work...
So, you have 1000 parts in your hands and don't know what part goes where. Ok lets read the manual...
American manuals are great. I've already seen this during the installation of the retro-look MP3 player. Americans are do-it-yourselfers. You just can't order well-fitting parts. Again, many holes and angle plates were delivered. It often says "use the most suitable parts for your vehicle," or "adjust X and Y to your vehicle." The first sentence was the absolute highlight, it was like: bend the plate over your knee to the exact fitting of your car".
Advantage of this technology: it is simple and fits on Ford and GMC vans and pickups from around 30 years!
installing the brackets
On the driver's side we screwed the brackets into various carriers. On the passenger side, we did not have much luck, but because of the sliding door the boards had to endure more.
After read the instructions again we directly attached the brackets to the body with sheet metal screws. We fixed that afterwards on the other side too.
fenders
The front fenders needed to be customized a lot. So we first used a cardboard model like we used to when installing the checker plates.
