planning the floor

Quickly it became clear that there is only one floor which can be used in the interior of a motorhome: resin-coated plywood.

These boards are available in various thicknesses. It is a commonly used board in trucks for floors.

The price of such a board has then led me to look for cheaper alternatives. Just 500 CHF only for the ground was too much. I've reviewed some other materials. One should know how you want to divide the plate, because some boards you can buy only in one big sizes and some you can by per m2.  So first I made a rough sketch, and when materials were known: a more readable note.

planning in detail

To find the right material, you need to know what your needs are. Mine were not that ambitious, compared to other campers:

  • Operating only in summer
  • No bathroom
  • No kitchen
  • Windows always open when sleeping

This does not create large temperature differences (and therefore no condensation), and nothing that gives rise to dampness.

I have therefore decided on a 12mm heavy spruce plywood plate. With a price of just under 30.- CHF per m2that's half the price of a resin-coated plywood , and there is no need to buy full sized boards, so again I save some m2. For the proper planning, I have once again drawn a pattern in Google Sketchup. In one week, the board should be ready for pickup, then we need to know where, how and what to cut.

The floor is composed of 3 parts: top 2 narrow elongated left and right, below a broad one for conclusion.
